The golden hour had us motivated to remove some fallen trees from blocking Solstice Trail.

For the record, we always leave deadfall near where it falls so it can break down and provide critical habitat for flora and fauna - especially important this time of year!

If you see a stick tee-pee, please report it to the park rangers for removal. And if you're thinking about building one, please consider recreating another way that supports our is neutral to the ecosystem.

This small batch of Reclaim Nature soap will be ready in about a month, inspired by my spicebush botanical illustration.

Using colors from various leaves and berries through all seasons, this singular species gives so much energy!

Also known as wild allspice, Lindera benzoin is native to most of the mid-atlantic of North America. It is often used to restore the understory in an area overrun with invasive plants.

For the aroma in the soap; I used birch, allspice, cinnamon leaf, and lemon essential oils to capture the notes of spicebush. Now that I have a distiller, I hope to create my own essential oil or at least a hydrosol of its captivating scent.

My illustration will be included with the Flora Project display in the lobby at @phippsconservatory with an opening reception on June 16th.
